About Jacobson Engineering Services

Jacobson Engineering Services provides electrical engineering consulting - specializing in wireless systems, electrical interference, grounding, and protection of telecommunication systems. Jacobson Engineering Services is Kevin Jacobson, Ph.D., P.Eng., a member of the Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of Alberta, and a member of the Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers (IEEE).

Background

Kevin Jacobson has worked in engineering and marketing departments in a number of different companies including TELUS Communications, STENTOR Resource Centre Inc., Nortel Technologies, Manitoba Telecom Services, and Manitoba Hydro.

His main area of expertise is telecommunications, but he is familiar with many aspects of power systems as well. He has been involved with research and development, troubleshooting, design, damage investigations, safety investigations, standards and training over a fifteen year career. This diverse background has developed strong abilities in both theoretical work and real-world practical solutions.

Education and Achievements

Education: Doctor of Philosophy and Master of Science degrees from the University of Alberta, and a Bachelor of Science degree (with distinction) from the University of Manitoba. All of these are in Electrical Engineering. He has won numerous awards during his academic career: Natural Science and Engineering Research Council (NSERC) Scholarships, informatics circle of research excellence (iCORE), Manulife Financial/Canadian Council of Professional Engineers Scholarship, Walter H. Johns Scholarship, TRLabs scholarship and fellowship.

After performing research in advanced wireless systems at TRLabs, holding a Post Doctoral Fellowship position at the University of Alberta, Electrical and Computer Engineering department, he received a Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering at the University of Alberta in 2010. He was hired in 2012 to develop new courses in broadband wireless systems and cellular systems for Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT). He is currently teaching numerous courses in all aspects of telecommunications and wireless systems at NAIT.
